ARSTM members Amanda Pratt, Anny Ortiz, Alberto Vargas Prieto’s 2020 ARSTM@NCA preconference presentation, “Interdisciplinary Psychedelic Engagement to Enact Social Justice,” was recently cited in The Progressive. The Madison-based non-profit publishes a bimonthly magazine as well as daily online articles focused on national politics, culture, and events including U.S. foreign policy.
The story, entitled The Potential (and Peril) of Legalizing Psychedelics, discusses recent initiatives to decriminalize psychedelics and associated efforts to study their therapeutic potential in controlled settings. The author cites Pratt, Ortiz, and Vargas Prieto’s discussion of the endangered Sonoran Desert Toad as part her larger commentary on the tensions between clinical psychedelic science and indigenous rights and knowledges.
